The First Article.

Of Creation.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. (READ first softly almost in a whisper, then louder, and finally louder still )

What does this mean? This is Martin Luther’s explanation. What words or phrases jump out at you? Why? Underline them and be prepared to share.

I believe that God has made me and all creatures; that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my limbs, my reason, and all my senses, and still preserves them; in addition thereto, clothing and shoes, meat and drink, house and homestead, wife and children, fields, cattle, and all my goods; that He provides me richly and daily with all that I need to support this body and life, protects me from all danger, and guards me and preserves me from all evil; and all this out of pure, fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me; for all which I owe it to Him to thank, praise, serve, and obey Him. This is most certainly true.

Scripture Time with your Parents: Read and Highlight Isaiah 40: 28a, 30-31.  In this text, God is saying, “Have you heard of me? Have you not known? Have you not heard? I made it all.”

Talk with your parents about why you think God wants you to know this. Discuss together why it’s important that people recognize God as God.

What’s your favorite spot in nature? Why do you like it?

What can you notice and know about God by looking at creation? What do you think God wants you to notice and know about creation and the Creator?

What do you believe?

A friend says, “You can’t be much of a scientist and believe in God!” How do you answer?

How do you respond to a friend who says, “I cant be bothered to recycle. It’s too much of a hassle.”

Or this one, “I don’t worry about saving water and electricity. We have enough money.”

Or this: “The Bible says we have dominion over the earth, so we can  do whatever we want with it.”

Listen to This I believe (The Creed) by Hillsong on YouTube as a family, then finish this sentence as a family creed.

I believe…..
